Underestimate the necessity of warm up in football and you can end up getting injured real bad. Well i did, i used to skip the warm up sessions that our coach had instructed us to follow and go straight into the game. Eventually one day i ended up spraining my ankle which kept me off the field and on bed for almost 3 weeks and am still recovering.
now thats me, i regret it now but also learnt a very important lesson, “the value of warm up in football” and the injury also encouraged me to post this piece of information!
Skipping warm up sessions increases the risk of injury and also puts the player at his own disadvantage that is the reason why all the professional teams follow a series strict warm up exercises before every match, to get the heart rates up and blood pumping through the muscles, its a bit like starting a car from cold,it takes a few minutes
for the engine to warm up and reach its most efficient condition. Besides it prepares you both mentally and physically.
So in addition to the basic exercises we get at our club i did an additional research on warming up and stumbled upon this piece over the internet.Have you heard of it, well i hadn’t until now.
Its called the “11+”- a complete warm up programme to prevent injuries.
Developed originally by FIFA’s Medical Assessment and Research Centre
(F-MARC). Thanks to them!
